Mark Masteller

Back to 'Attractions List'

Are you interested in having an experienced naturalist help you enjoy your stay in South Central Alaska?  Would you like to view wildlife and explore areas tame or wild areas by foot, boat, horse, plane or helicopter?  Learn about bear safety, local wildlife and their habitats?  Search for rocks and fossils?  Would you like help arranging logistics for a unique experience of your own design?

I have worked as a wildlife biologist in Alaska for 20 years; flying, skiing and hiking in both urban and wild areas.  I can help you plan a personalized trip – based on your interests and schedule – to make your Alaska visit special!

Ways I Can Help Make Your Visit Special

If you don’t have time to research all of your options while you’re in our area, let me help!  I offer a range of services including:

  • Local guide and naturalist to accompany you to areas of your choice
  • Wildlife Viewing
  • Trip Planning
  • Arranging local logistics for your adventure – such as charter aircraft, flight seeing, rafting/boating, biking and hiking
  • Bear safety information
  • Slide shows on wildlife and local culture in various parts of Alaska

My Background

For most of the last 22 years I worked as a wildlife biologist in many parts of the state, including the Aleutian Islands, Yukon Delta, north slope (Arctic National Wildlife Refuge), Brooks Range, and Denali National Park.  I worked on research projects involving bears, wolves, musk oxen, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, mountain goats, eagles, shorebirds and geese.

For 10 years I worked as a management biologist for an area encompassing the Susitna, Matanuska and Knik river drainages and including the towns of Chickaloon, Palmer, Wasilla and Talkeetna.  The area includes portions of three major mountain ranges (Alaska, Talkeetna and Chugach), and several state and national parks.

My Fees

Guiding: $350 per day plus expenses

Logistics planning, bear safety discussions, slide shows:  $40 per hour
